• Battery powered flashlights and radio. 
• Extra batteries
• Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
• Manual can opener for food
• Regional maps
• Moist towelettes and any personal sanitation or specific family needs.  

Form an Action Plan - When the situation gets chaotic make sure that every family member knows what to do. Prep you home.  If the power goes out, unplug appliances and electronics and turn off air conditioners regardless if you stay or go.
