Brand New Homeless Shelter in San Pedro

This new temporary shelter in the middle of San Pedro's growing homeless encampment will soon come online, after it received unanimous approval from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The $300,000 county-funded project will re purpose the vacant public health building at 122 W. 8th Street, to house 40 people for 120 days, after which the goal will be to move them into more permanent housing. the shelter use will be restricted to three years.
The 14,500 square-foot facility on the corner of 8th and Beacon streets, which will house 20 men and 20 women in separate quarters with privacy dividers, will include 24 hour supervision and security, services provided by medical and social case worker, and 3 meals a day to be brought in from the outside to the inside.
